Tip# 1 Do an Internship Before Pursuing a Higher Degree

Doing an internship before pursuing a higher degree gives clarity of thought in a very precise time frame, that whether a person even wants to pursue a higher degree, or whether that subject interests him/her.

Tip# 2 Don’t do a PhD a Career in Entrepreneurship or the Corporate Sector

While having a PhD is considered to be a great asset, having a PhD does not necessarily lead to professional growth in certain industries.

Tip# 3 Spend at least 6–12 Months in Your First Job

Use your first job to take ownership of your learning.

Tip# 4 Put Your Time In

At the start of your first job, you might be required to do “grunt or dirty work” before moving on to implementing “serious” projects. This might seem discouraging.

  1. Always ask what is the big picture or what is the importance of the work you do.
  2. Don’t be afraid to put in the grunt work to prove your metal.
